The shell is crafted of ash and was crafted into a barrel shape which will allow for greater resonance of the sound when played. After completing the shell, a two-step process was followed to apply the rawhide heads and traditional byou (tacks) fasten down the head. A taiko this size wound be categized as between a 1.5 to 1.6 shaku (it is 18.5 inches across and 21 inches tall). Talon Armory, a local armorer, crafted the kan (handles) using hand tools and following traditional shapes. These kans are unique to our taiko. We also include naname (angled) and beta (flat) stands as well as bachi to play the taiko with.
