Himawari Japanese Choir
Himawari is a local choral group in which members enjoy experiencing Japanese culture and tradition through singing Japanese songs.
Their songs remind listeners of nostalgic images of the beautiful scenery of the four seasons in Japan. For the Japan Festival, the group will also be performing some American songs which have been translated into Japanese.
The performers will wear the traditional summer kimono called yukata.
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
Himawari is open for everyone who likes to sing Japanese songs. Currently we have about 30 members from toddlers to adults. Our aim is to introduce Japanese culture through the Japanese songs and to contribute to cultural diversity in the local community. The meaning of “Himawari” is sunflower, the state flower of Kansas.
