For 52 years the Heart of America Japan-America Society (HAJAS) has made it our mission, “To further the understanding between the peoples of Japan and the Greater Kansas City area by promoting social, cultural and educational exchanges.”
We present monthly programs about “all things Japanese,” and visit schools, libraries and companies educating and promoting various aspects of Japanese culture – both traditional and contemporary. We provide higher education scholarships for students of Asian studies and have exchanged high school students with Kansas City’s Sister City, Kurashiki, for over 40 years.
But the single largest cultural outreach event we present is the annual Greater Kansas City Japan Festival which celebrates its 17th Anniversary this year. It’s also our biggest fundraiser of the year. Funding for our various programs comes from these events and is critical to our continued efforts.
Your gift signals to the community that you understand and appreciate the mission of HAJAS and the work that it does as well as the important role that U.S. and Japanese relations play in global security and economy.
